Kailash Trip via Simikot Overview

Mount Kailash Tour through Simikot is an amazing spiritual journey to the Tibet. The route of this tour from Simikot is the shortest and most practical route for hikers in terms of elevation and distance. Once you are in arrival terminal of Kathmandu International Airport, our representative will meet and welcome you to Nepal. Then you will be transferred to your pre-booked hotel and after completing the check-in procedure, you can rest and relax at your hotel room. After having a rest for a while, we take you to short Thamel tour to make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money exchangers, supermarket, gear shop and other necessary thing that you might require during the tour. You will then be taken to our office for trip briefing meeting. Overnight in hotel. If your arrival is late today, this tour and trip briefing will be shifted for the next day.

Enjoy your first breakfast in Nepal at your Hotel and prepare for delightful city tour. The sightseeing tour involves visiting two religious and cultural important sites of Pashupatinath temple and Boudhanath stupa. Pashupatinath Temple: Dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, Pashupatinath temple is one of the most famous Hindu temples in South-Asia. This place is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. The Bagmati River flowing behind the temple is religiously and spiritually important for Hindus where cremation of dead body takes place. Pashupatinath temple holds the most of prominence during Shivaratri – Shiva’s birthday in which thousands of pilgrims gather to celebrate the auspicious day. Other occasional festivities and celebrations take place in the complex regularly. Boudhanath Stupa: It is one of the biggest Stupas in terms of size and height in Nepal dedicated to Buddhism. The site is peaceful and culturally full with intermixed influence of Tibetan and Sherpa roots. Stupa built in the trading route between Kathmandu and Tibet has four pairs of eyes directed towards all four directions. The Stupa and philosophy around is influenced by Mahayana Buddhist philosophy. After short tour of city we return to hotel and prepare for the trek. Overnight will be spent at hotel.

On this day, you will take a flight to Nepalgunj which is about 515 km to the west from Kathmandu. It is an hour flight where you can view the civilization of the sub-tropical lowlands of the Terai. You can explore the market area of this region later, in the evening. Overnight at local lodge.

After an early morning breakfast, you will fly to Simikot of Humla district from Nepalgunj. The flight offers amazing views of the high Himalayan peaks. Once you land at Simikot, you will be able to see the culture and way of life of the people residing in the western mountains of Nepal. The distance of the spot and straightforwardness in a way of life is just about as great and beguiling as the mountains. We will begin our hike to Dharapori which is pretty much 5 hours journeying distance from Simikot. Overnight at local lodge at Dharapori.

We will trek towards Kermi today after an early morning breakfast. The trail is relatively flat alongside the Karnali River, where we have to pass through cultivation field mainly comprised of barley, buckwheat, rice and potatoes. Taking in and capturing the wonderful sights of the trail, we will reach in Kermi after 5 hours of hiking. Once we reach Kermi, we can visit some Buddhist monasteries- Laikyo Gumba and Lhundrup Choeling Gumba and we can also go for a natural hot spring bath. Overnight at local lodge at Kermi.

Today we will hike for around 5 hours to get to Yalbang, which is at an elevation of 2880 m above the sea level. The trail that we pass today is flat and steep until we reach a small pass and cross a suspension bridge over the Salli River. You can enjoy the views of the beautiful pine trees and the mighty Karnali river from this spot. Similarly, we will come across Namkha Khyung Dzong monastery and pay a short visit there. Overnight at local lodge at Yalbang.

As we ascend further, we can see that lush green vegetation vanishing with the increase in height. We will only be able to see pine trees and bleak rocky hills. 5 hours of trek will take us o Tumkot, where we will tour the area and visit a monastery there. Overnight at local lodge at Tumkot.

Day 08: Tumkot to Yari (3665 m) | Walking Duration: 7 hours Trekking for 7 hours from Tumkot will lead us to Yari, which is relatively an easy trail above the Karnali River. As we reach to the higher elevation, we will notice the difference in the climate, vegetation and lifestyle of the people. You can also notice trees with short height and low junipers. The distant alpine area's general mood will be breathtakingly distinct and equally appealing. Overnight at local lodge at Yari.

Today, we head our way to Hilsa- Nepal Tibet border town. We will hike for about 6 hours passing through different trails and traversing the Nara La pass (4620 m above sea level). We will be welcomed by an amazing view of the beautiful Tibetan plateau and Yari village after crossing the Nara La pass. Overnight at Hilsa.

We will be entering Tibet today. We will meet our Tibetan guide after crossing the friendship bridge and passing through checkpoints. The guide will take us to Purang. We ascend from Hilsa to Purang and pass Rinzin Zangpo Gompa and Kangje Village along the way. Once we reach Purang, we will visit various monasteries and explore the local area. Overnight stay at Purang.

Today, we will walk for 4 hours to reach Montser. On our way there, we will pass across two beautiful lakes Rakshas and Manasarovar. We will then visit Tirthapuri (4510 m) after reaching Rakshas lake. The Tirthapuri Hot Springs are closely related with Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), so pilgrims from different regions come to take bathe in the pool, visit the monastery containing the guru's footprint and dig for healing stones along a one-hour pilgrimage route. After a brief tour to Tirthapuri, we will return back to Purang. Overnight stay at hotel in Purang.

For the first half of the day, we will go to Garuda valley for sightseeing. It is a sacred place, located to the southwest of Mount Kailash, where we can see lots of mysterious caves. There is belief that it was a cradle of the Tibetan civilization during the time of Shang Shung kings, long before Buddhism reached the roof of the world. Later in the evening, we will move to Darchen to spend our night. We will start our parikarama from Darchen on the next day. Overnight stay in Darchen.

Today we are going to start the first day of circumnavigation of the holy Mount Kailash. The first day after leaving Darchen entails a six-hour journey through a deep valley with red-rock walls. We make our way to Shersong through the plain. We continue on to a bridge that leads to the Chhuku Gompa that is visible from the valley. The trail then leads to Derapuk from where can view the north face of Mount Kailash. (If you feel difficulty in walking, there is an option for horse or yak ride). Overnight stay in hotel.

After an early morning breakfast, we will climb the Dolma La Pass (5650 m), the most difficult section of our journey. The pass is filled with five-colored praying flags. After crossing the pass, we carefully descend to Zuthulpuk on a narrow, slick track. Overnight stay in hotel.

Today is the third and final day of parikrama. We will walk back to Darchen to catch a vehicle that takes us back to Mansarovar. After 4 hours of walk we reach to Darchen where a vehicle will be waiting for us. After we reach there at Mansarovar, we will circumambulate the beautiful lake and there is a belief that Kora of Mount Kailash is completed only with a holy dip in the lake. Also, it is believed that one can be relieved from the sins of a hundred lives after taking a dip and drinking its holy water. Overnight in Mansarovar.

We will leave early in the morning and drive to Zangmu. It will be a long drive. We will be driving whole day on the highway, stopping only for lunch and other necessary breaks. Overnight stay in Zangmu.

Today we will drive back to Nepal. We will reach Kathmandu- Nepal's bustling capital city, after driving for about four hours on Tibetan land and four hours on Nepali land. After you reach Kathmandu, check in to a hotel, freshen up and relax at your room.

We will be entering Tibet today. We will meet our Tibetan guide after crossing the friendship bridge and passing through checkpoints. The guide will take us to Purang. We ascend from Hilsa to Purang and pass Rinzin Zangpo Gompa and Kangje Village along the way. Once we reach Purang, we will visit various monasteries and explore the local area. Overnight stay at Purang.

Today, we will walk for 4 hours to reach Montser. On our way there, we will pass across two beautiful lakes Rakshas and Manasarovar. We will then visit Tirthapuri (4510 m) after reaching Rakshas lake. The Tirthapuri Hot Springs are closely related with Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche), so pilgrims from different regions come to take bathe in the pool, visit the monastery containing the guru's footprint and dig for healing stones along a one-hour pilgrimage route. After a brief tour to Tirthapuri, we will return back to Purang. Overnight stay at hotel in Purang.

For the first half of the day, we will go to Garuda valley for sightseeing. It is a sacred place, located to the southwest of Mount Kailash, where we can see lots of mysterious caves. There is belief that it was a cradle of the Tibetan civilization during the time of Shang Shung kings, long before Buddhism reached the roof of the world. Later in the evening, we will move to Darchen to spend our night. We will start our parikarama from Darchen on the next day. Overnight stay in Darchen.

Today we are going to start the first day of circumnavigation of the holy Mount Kailash. The first day after leaving Darchen entails a six-hour journey through a deep valley with red-rock walls. We make our way to Shersong through the plain. We continue on to a bridge that leads to the Chhuku Gompa that is visible from the valley. The trail then leads to Derapuk from where can view the north face of Mount Kailash. (If you feel difficulty in walking, there is an option for horse or yak ride). Overnight stay in hotel.

After an early morning breakfast, we will climb the Dolma La Pass (5650 m), the most difficult section of our journey. The pass is filled with five-colored praying flags. After crossing the pass, we carefully descend to Zuthulpuk on a narrow, slick track. Overnight stay in hotel.

Today is the third and final day of parikrama. We will walk back to Darchen to catch a vehicle that takes us back to Mansarovar. After 4 hours of walk we reach to Darchen where a vehicle will be waiting for us. After we reach there at Mansarovar, we will circumambulate the beautiful lake and there is a belief that Kora of Mount Kailash is completed only with a holy dip in the lake. Also, it is believed that one can be relieved from the sins of a hundred lives after taking a dip and drinking its holy water. Overnight in Mansarovar.

We will leave early in the morning and drive to Zangmu. It will be a long drive. We will be driving whole day on the highway, stopping only for lunch and other necessary breaks. Overnight stay in Zangmu.

Today we will drive back to Nepal. We will reach Kathmandu- Nepal's bustling capital city, after driving for about four hours on Tibetan land and four hours on Nepali land. After you reach Kathmandu, check in to a hotel, freshen up and relax at your room.
